It's not about the presents, nor the frantic trips to the mall.
It's not about the cookies, or the decorations at all.
We celebrate our Savior's birth,
So I post this here to remind us...
Take a moment to be thankful;
for the greatest gift on Earth.
It's so easy, especially at this time of year, to get caught up in all the hype that surrounds us. Whether it's the traffic, the crowds of people everywhere, the rushing, the lists, the shopping, the baking, the wrapping, the parties...the list goes on and on...to forget; why we celebrate this holiday at all.
For the last several years, we've opted for a quieter, more serene Christmas. And I've got to tell you that I'm enjoying it far more than I ever used to. I try to visit my friends, take a little time apart from all the scuffle and nourish what's really important to me. My friends, my family and our relationships. Send those cards to let people far away know you're thinking about them. It's fun to receive something other than a bill in the mail! Christmas cards is one of my favorite parts of the holiday. I also enjoy baking cookies, and sharing them with friends, neighbors, co-workers, my farrier, even the mailman. It's a tiny memento of gratitude and makes people smile. Who doesn't love a homemade cookie? I also like to go out to the barn and set up a little work table, put on some beautiful Christmas music and make a wreath for our door; even better if I spend that time with a friend. We laugh, talk and savor our time spent together. That's better than anything you can buy in a store. I also enjoy decorating the Christmas tree. It's beautiful and the smell is heavenly!
But the main reason for this special season is always foremost in my mind. I realize that nobody really knows exactly when Jesus was born. That's not important. It's just that we set apart a day and remember to be thankful for that birth. And really let it sink in, just how very important that gift was, and still is, to all of us today.

I've nipped the commercialism of Christmas in the bud, big time, and feel so much less stress when the season rolls around.
My favorite holiday tradition is baking cookies with my daughter...lots and lots of cookies and giving them all away. Unfortunately, that's out this year. My oven decided that the only temperature it knows is 650 degrees...and fixing that will cost more than a new oven! So, I'm oven-less this season, unless I want to make charcoal, of course.
I sent that poem in my Christmas cards a few years ago. Love it. My favorite tradition is the Christmas tree. I don't care so much the decorations, just the white lights that shine. I did not put many decorations on this year because Tazzy thinks its her favorite place to play. We are enjoying watching her way more than the decorations. Have a wonderful holiday season.

I coudn't have said it better myself! The older I get, the more I realize it's definitely not baout gifts but Jesus' birth. I prefer not to get gifts but enjoy the presence of family and that's good enough for me. :)

Many favored memorable traditions have come & go, but these days my favorite tradition is our families annual selecting & cutting a Christmas tree. We go every year, laugh and reminisce...one year my hubby & I missed the gathering for an out of town hockey tournament with our son. My two girls & now son-in-law picked out our family tree. None of us will ever forget that year. We arrived to find the three of them sitting on the living room floor, tears running down their face from laughing so hard. They tried to surprise us by putting the tree up! The funny things they went through trying to accomplish that, and the fact that the tree was SO unproportionately round it filled the entire room, was absolutely priceless! I love that they/we have this unforgettable memory together!!
